"Building Our Community...One Resident at a Time"

The mission of Residence Life is to provide a safe and secure living/learning environment for students residing in College housing facilities.  In partnership with Student Development and the community as a whole, we foster an environment that promotes the holistic development of student’s lifelong learning.

In order to accomplish its mission, Residence Life utilizes the services of a unique group of students called Resident Assistants.  Resident Assistants live in the buildings with students and are responsible for developing and establishing the community living environment in partnership with residents.

The Resident Assistant, or RA, functions in many capacities during his/her employment.  Some of the most important required roles are that of a facilitator, counselor, resource person, administrator, team player, and friend. The role of the Resident Assistant is one of the most important roles in the Division of Student Development.  No other position has the opportunity to affect so many students’ lives.

The RA is involved in a variety of aspects of student life.  He/she will be called upon to do many things and will hold many responsibilities.

Some of the responsibilities of the RA are as follows:

v    An RA is required to spend sufficient time on his/her floor to become acquainted with each resident and to be sensitive to individual needs.

v    An RA is a role model who must understand and enforce all LMC and Residence Life policies and regulations.

v   An RA must function as a team member with the other RA’s, Assistant Resident Directors, the Director of Housing, and the Assistant Dean for Student Development.

v    An RA is appreciative of diversity and must be willing to assist in the education of all residents through programming.

v    An RA believes in the development of our on campus community.
